Description
Thought to have been completely hunted down and vanquished in ancient times there has been a modern resurgence of a long forgotten beast from Asia known as the wereneko. The wereneko are very similar to and are the eastern equivalent of the werewolf. Wereneko like werewolves are humans inflicted by a curse that gives them the ability to shapeshift a half human half beast creature with primal and violent tendencies. The wereneko's origins and the curse itself though generally similar very are much different from those of the werewolf. The curse of the wereneko appeared in ancient times as the result of an encounter with a sort of cat yokai known as the Nekomata who's spirit was believed to possess the body and inflict its victim with the wereneko curse in order to feed again in a physical form. The spirit of a cursed Nekomata sought out mostly females as victims for the curse and would lure them into the mountains where they would be inflicted. Once possessed, inflicted with the curse it's victim would begin to have a craving for human flesh. Gaining the ability to shapeshift from a human into the catlike creature known as the wereneko at will. In the form of the wereneko they gain the amplified power and predatory instinct similar to big cats such as lions, tiger, etc. This combined with their wit made them especially deadly and even more dangerous than the werewolves who usually loses control in its transformed state. The wereneko are very cunning and their charm irresistible to most, many even being able to lure and kill several people in one night. They would use they're human form to trick and charm other humans into following them into their lairs near the mountains to be devoured. After a while people started to notice a pattern and behavior with the wereneko and began to fight back. A large army of people took up arms and with the assistance of military forces raided the lairs of the werenekos in the mountains and have thought to had completely wiped out the wereneko whose numbers were very few to begin with. After this followed a very long period of peace and the wereneko where soon forgotten and never heard of again. That until modern times...
In modern Japan especially in large cities such as Tokyo there have been grisly crime scenes turning up of bodies eaten and dismembered by something that evidence leads to believe is not entirely human. These crime scenes are always covered up to the public and are described among typical murder scenes as investigators are unable to pin point the cause nor find traces of a beast hiding in the dense populations of the cities. This is a sign of the resurgence of the wereneko... It is believed that the nekomata that caused the wereneko curse went into hiding for many years until the perfect time came that it could reemergence and seamlessly blend into society. It has learned from its old ways and mistakes, now taking refuge in the otaku, anime, and costume culture of Japan. With neko/catgirls being a very popular thing in modern times unlike in ancient times, the wereneko now have a new feeding ground within the culture. Instead of hiding in the mountains the wereneko can walk the streets unnoticed and under the guise of simple cosplayers, catgirls, otakus, and even prostitutes. They're charm and cunning more impeccable then ever before the wereneko solicit their victims with their new cute, submissive, and innocent attitudes paired with their new adorable and sexy modern costumes that make them even more irresistible to some than ever before. Things such as the fetishization of catgirls, popular portrayals in anime, halloween costumes, cosplaying conventions, parties, etc make finding meals for a wereneko more simpler than ever. It is near impossible to tell the difference now between a normal catgirl, a cat fanatic, and a wereneko until it is to late and you have become their next meal. Few cases similar to those in Japan recently have been turning up abroad suggesting the curse maybe on the move...
Happy Halloween yall and thanks for reading and supporting my work with your views, favorites, and comments I greatly appreciate them all. Have a safe Halloween and be wary of those catgirls that will be everywhere ;)
