This is artwork for encounter #17 of the encounter short stories for my horror series Blackhaven Institution which is written below. The day Blackhaven Institution a house for orphaned children and unwanted infants burned to the ground mysteriously, the souls of those trapped inside became corrupted by an evil that warped them into demons that dwell in an alternate Blackhaven Institution. There they await those who are dragged into this alternate world by an unknown evil. This encounter with the demon “Nightmare Rattler" takes place in the "Nursery Wing" as follows:

This nightmare... This never ending nightmare. I no longer have a sense of time, a sense of place, nor a sense of purpose to continue on. Things I've seen here I never thought I would witness even in the worst of my nightmares. One moment with my friends enjoying the final year of our college career at a party. The next now coming across them in this vision... Dead, mangled, torn apart, crushed, and eaten alive by monsters unlike anything I have ever seen nor could fathom. These images filling me with terror and sickness, the trauma soaking into the depths of my very core. I could not grasp how... I could not grasp why... These demons I witness have taken on the distorted appearance of infants. I have never had a nightmare I could even remember that felt and looked this real. It all doesn't make sense, it really doesn't make sense. I have never smelled the scent of fresh blood nor the scent of cindering charred flesh. Yet this potent stench of death is all around me no matter where I go as I blindly traverse this dark smoky maze of demons. I've tried pinching myself, opening and closing my eyes, and even resorted to prayer for the first time in a long time, but now I'm somewhere God can't even hear me... Covered in sweat, dripping with the blood of friends and monsters alike, delirium has taken control of me.

I haven't seen anything so vicious, so fucked until I heard that rattle for the first time, followed by heavy footsteps that shook the ground all around. I remember seeing two of my class mates, one pinned down by a monster that was gorging on his insides. The other hysterically hitting at the beast unable to accept what was happening. The instant I heard that rattle and footsteps the beast immediately released him and cowered in fear. Running blindly into the smokey darkness in a panic. Then I heard a large crash as its body flung back out smashing into one the other classmate pinning him underneath the body of the monster. Out of the shadows came out, the source of the rattling, a giant. It forcefully smashed my classmate who was still trapped still under the body of the monster with it's spiked mallet. Smashing repeatedly with so much force, that all that was left was nothing but a pitch dark stain spewing from a pile of meat... Without much hesitation I ran. I know it's pursuing me, the rattling echoing through these dark halls, the quaking footsteps only getting closer and closer no matter where I run.

The monster nearly obliterated everything in its way with its hulking body alone as it pursued me, not even budging as if it was made of something as tough steel . I sprinted without any thought until the sounds of crashing and rattling faded into the distance. I turned a corner to stop and take a rest, upon this I was startled as I found one of my best friends Dean leaning against the wall. I grabbed him in desperation unable to believe I found him. I began shaking him as he told me words I'd never thought I would here him say. He had given up, no matter how many times I slapped him he would say the same thing crying, mentioning that every slap felt so real... My heart dropped into my stomach as I heard the rattling close approaching. His last words urging me to go on, to leave him there to die, before it turned the corner. He believed that is was the only way to wake up from this nightmare... I never seen the face of a man who has accepted death even though I knew he feared it, I never thought that face would be Dean's. As it turned around the corner the beast spotted him. At that point that image was smashed into my head,it haunted my very soul. The bursting of his flesh, the earthshaking force of the impact it felt all to real. The monstrosity standing over Dean's body held up its mallet and rattled. I was still in shock from Dean's death, my body couldn't move yet it did not pursue me. Everything around me soon began to quake...

A ear shrieking howl echoed from all around as the quake grew vicious. I saw black veins pulsating and coiling all through the walls and floors of this nightmarish place. I felt light headed as my vision turned black, I heard indecipherable tongue speaking. As some as it stopped I woke up to find myself in the middle of a street. It took me a while to obtain full and clear consciousness, but I was able to see the silhouette of houses, cars, and trees in the close distance. Standing on my feet, the world still colorless it still looked more like reality than anywhere in that nightmarish place I was trapped in before. In front of me to the side was a sign, this familiar read “Welcome To Blackhaven Township”. I then turned around in awe, in the woods in the distance was a towering black structure spewing black smoke, piercing the sky it was massive, bigger than anything I've ever seen...
