Piece 1- Reunited - Quote from the narrative below “ Reunited in the sky, in the moon's light, from the fires below, it shouldn't have been this way...”
Continue below to read the full story behind this quote and this piece.
It was first love, a man and a woman one night long ago in their youth, under the moon's glistening light...This moment would lead to the birth of a child created by the powerful bond of this couple. With the birth of a daughter the couple was excited now able to start life as a family. After a few months the new mother started to show signs of weakness. The new father took it as a sign of exhaustion from constantly caring for the new child mostly herself. So he began to cut his hours from work to stay by her side and care for the child. But things only seemed to be on a rapid decline, yet he waited hoping for things to get better. He felt the more he cared for her, she would get better soon. But after an episode of a drastic collapse the father rushed the mother to the hospital. There doctors determined the mother was battling a terminal illness. Telling the father that at this point and even with treatment she would likely not make it. The moment he heard those words he couldn't bear to believe this was reality, pleading on his knees hoping the doctor was wrong. The mother upon hearing this news drove her in a severe panic attack, she couldn't bear to believe this was her reality, subdued by doctors she fell into a deep sleep. The daughter waited at home with a sitter, unaware of any of this...
In the months before his wife's death the husband reflected on the time he allowed his wife to be in pain, all the times he believed she suffered due to his ignorance, he began to hate himself. His wife on the otherhand did not reflect on negativity. She reflected on the time he cared for her and her daughter, the passion and devotion one man could show inspired her. She was not angry about something no one could control. She focused on the present and her time making her final memories with her daughter before the end no matter how bad the pain became. The husband watched in horror as at times he had to watch his wife's will break, in these moments sitting their as she screamed wishing for death... Only through shear will-power and the presence of her husband and daughter she was able to come back from these moments. In the days before her death she comforted her broken husband, urging him not to blame himself. In last few moments of her death, grabbing the arm of her love tight with all the strength she had left. She smiled and whispered “ I may not be here... As me...But I will always live through her...There I will wait...” As she reached her finger towards a picture pointing at the image of their daughter. Twitching, in pain, and now unable to speak she slowly pulled her hand back. Her grip then loosened and her hand fell limp onto her chest...
The father and daughter became very close in the time after as they found ways to comfort each other after the loss of the mother. Though the father struggled and did take up a habit of drinking he never involved the daughter, nor did her harm. It was only a few years later, and now the daughter had become afflicted with weakness and this same illness. To hear this, have to experience this again drove the father into madness... He did not respond to the doctors yet walked out of the hospital in silence. Finding a thick wall he began progressively bashing his head into, to the point blood poured down his head and he was in a daze. Regaining his composure, he broke down praying he would wake up with his wife and daughter, this all being a dream. Yet this was reality... Cleaning himself with water and wrapping a clothe around his head like a bandanna to cover his wounds he stumbled back into the hospital, witnessing sporadic visions. He saw and knew could not live to watch his daughter go through the same suffering as his wife had. He could not live to ever see the moment, his daughter would be screaming in bed, the moment a child new to this world would already be wishing for death... He pleaded with the doctor to let him spend this last night with her daughter at home before she would become hospitalized. The doctor agreed yet was very concerned by the look of the father, but did not want to go against his wishes. Distraught he returned with his daughter back to their home on the outskirts of the city. Sniffling and tearing the whole time the daughter was concerned. Asking her father what was wrong, he would only respond by drinking from his flask. Holding her father 's quivering hand they walked together into the her bedroom. Tucking her in, he read her a bedtime story in a shaky voice hardly able to finish it. Before she went to sleep the father handed the daughter a glass of water, urging her to drink. The father breaking down as she took the drink, on the floor an empty pill bottle of Rohypnol...
The daughter now fast asleep, he grabbed a pillow, pressing it onto her face until the daughter breath no more. In silence he walked out of the room and downstairs. He then remembered, his wife's last words echoed through his head, the guilt tearing him apart from within. He began to cover all the walls of the house in gasoline, then lighting a fire and setting the house ablaze. On his knees in the living room, the fire raged and crackled around him. Looking up at the ceiling he spoke saying “No longer must you live through her...you will live with her... here, here there is only pain... there, where ever you may be... there is no more pain...please understand...please forgive me. I don't know if I can forgive God...If I cannot meet you there...cause of what I've done...now, its my turn... remember...I will always live through her...”. Above the burning house the moonlight glistened piercing through the clouds. Invisible to man a bright luminous being, an angel shrouded in light descend with great speed from above. Piercing through the roof of the house as swift as lightening, the angel swiftly bursted back out just as fast holding another being. The angel looked down upon the small ethereal body in her arms as it slowly placing its hand on her heart. Pausing in absolute dismay and slowing her ascent, looking down, it was her daughter. Reunited in the sky, in the moon's light, from the fires below, it shouldn't have been this way...
